Sage Well Natural Medicine
About Dr. Evelyn Bunce,
FNP-C | Natural Medicine, Maine
I'm a family nurse practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Practice, board-certified with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). I practice natural, integrative, and functional medicine — and I built Sage Well to make that kind of care simple, personal, and genuinely affordable for people all across Maine and New Hampshire.

I believe good medicine starts with you — your strengths, your story, and the things that make you uniquely you. So my care is truly individualized. Rather than treating a chart, I work to understand the root causes behind your symptoms, and I look for the gentlest, most natural path forward first. My goal is always to help you rely less on prescription medications and surgery, and more on your own vibrant, resilient health.
I'm passionate about health promotion and disease prevention, and I want you to walk away from every visit feeling like the expert on your own body. I keep appointments focused — usually one or two clear recommendations at a time — because I've found that real, lasting change is built step by step, not through information overload.
My approach draws on a wide range of natural and integrative traditions, including:
Anthroposophic Medicine · Ayurveda · Art Therapy · Herbal Medicine · Environmental Medicine · Homeopathy · Hydrotherapy · Equine and Animal-Assisted Therapies · Integrative & Functional Medicine · Nutrition · Ozone Therapy · Spiritual, Social & Emotional Medicine · Yoga & Exercise Therapies — and more.
Before becoming a nurse practitioner, I worked in psychiatric nursing, where I became fascinated by the deep connections between physical, mental, and spiritual health — a thread that still runs through everything I do. I earned both my BSN and my DNP from Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri, and completed my doctoral research on depression and exercise. I also hold a BA in English and Art History from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.
I was born and raised in southwest Florida, but Maine has my heart. I first came here in 2002 to work as a whitewater rafting guide — and I fell in love with both the state and my husband. We moved back to Maine for good in 2018.
These days you'll find me on our small farm in Buxton, or out in the great Maine outdoors with my husband, our kids, and our grandson. I love swimming, writing, photography, painting, horses, bunnies, and gardening. I'm especially drawn to the connection between creativity and health — I believe art and nature are medicine, too. You can see some of my photography at Rooted Café in Buxton and at my Springvale office.
I'd be honored to help you become your healthiest, happiest self.

FAQs
Q: What conditions do you treat?
A: ANY/ALL health issues. We serve patients of Maine and New Hampshire of all ages in all phases of health and illness.
Q: How long is the appointment?
A: In order to keep cost as low as possible it is brief call (typically under 20 minutes). We find this format to be helpful in avoiding INFORMATION OVERLOAD! Focusing on one or two recommendations can mean greater heath successes to build upon!
Q: Do you prescribe prescription medications?
A: We can, and rarely, yes, we do. We have a small list of prescriptions that we occasionally do prescribe. But we focus first on natural treatment options before resorting to prescription medications. Typically, there is great improvement (or complete resolution!) of symptoms/health before resorting to Rx meds. There are many websites where you can get prescription meds online (for around the same price as a Sage Well appointment), so if you are scheduling with Sage Well we would prefer you are curious about NATURAL methods as the first course of action; it is our area of expertise and passion!
Q: Do you only offer telemedicine (telephone appointments)?
A: For the initial appointment (and typically) yes, but you can discuss in-person options (including equine therapy) at subsequent appointments.
Q: How do I get my Maine Medical Marijuana certification?
A: The process is simple. Send a picture of the front of your Maine state ID or DL to 207-200-1664 or to info@sagewellnaturalmed.com. Evelyn will call you ASAP to get you certified/recertified. Your digital copy will be sent to you and you can purchase right away. The hard copy will be mailed to you.
Q: Can I get a New Hampshire Therapeutic Cannabis certification here?
A: Yes. While we are located in Springvale, Maine, we are proud to serve our neighbors in New Hampshire. Please note that per New Hampshire state regulations, all initial certifications require an in-person evaluation at our Springvale office. Subsequent renewals may be eligible for telephone consultations.
Q: What are the benefits of a Medical Card if cannabis is already legal?
A: A medical certification offers several professional and clinical advantages:
Lower Costs: Medical patients pay significantly lower taxes than recreational purchasers.
Higher Quality: Access to reputable, local dispensaries focused on high-quality plant medicine.
Privacy & Protection: Medical certifications may provide additional legal and HIPAA privacy protections.
Stronger Products: Certain high-potency medicinal products are reserved exclusively for cardholders.
Q: Is my consultation private and secure?
A: Absolutely. Sage Well Natural Medicine operates as a professional medical practice. All consultations—whether for natural medicine or therapeutic certifications—are conducted with the highest standards of clinical confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
